Many people enjoy how fun the BMW 3 Series is to drive, but they need a vehicle that's a little more practical. That's where the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo
comes in, thanks to a hatchback body that allows owners to load big items with ease. Other advantages of the vehicle includes excellent rear legroom and a luxurious interior. For the 2015 model year, BMW includes Bluetooth audio streaming in the standard features. Two trim levels are available: the 328i xDrive and 335i xDrive.
Powering the 328i xDrive is a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 240 horsepower and 255 lb.-ft. of torque. Going with the 335i xDrive brings with it a more powerful 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder turbocharged engine that pounds out 300 horsepower and 300 lb.-ft. of torque. Both trims have an eight-speed automatic transmission, which can send power to all four wheels through the all-wheel-drive system. Fuel efficiency is boosted with the standard auto stop-start system, which cuts out engine idling.
BMW has a reputation for stellar safety, which is why the 3 Series Gran Turismo comes with equipment that helps prevent accidents and provides excellent protection during one. Both trim levels have turn signal lights integrated into the side mirrors, daytime running lights, traction control, brake assist and stability control. Frontal, front-side and side curtain airbags form an instant cushion for people sitting in the outboard seats on both rows, helping prevent injuries.
The 328i xDrive Gran Turismo is well-equipped with bucket seats, power-adjustable front seats, memory settings, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, automatic headlights, woodgrain interior trim pieces, audio controls mounted on the steering wheel, rain-sensing wipers, fog lights, an MP3 player connection, heated and power-adjustable side mirrors, power windows and locks, keyless entry, cruise control, a CD player, air conditioning, a universal garage door opener and Bluetooth connectivity. Occupants also get to use a powered sunroof/moon roof. The liftgate is powered as well, allowing people to open and close it without using their hands, which comes in handy when loading or unloading large items.
Several improvements to the standard equipment list are offered on the 335i xDrive Gran Turismo. High impact discharge lights provide excellent visibility in low-light situations. Optional leather upholstery, front/rear seat heaters and adjustable lumbar support for the driver increase overall occupant comfort. Buyers can also add a rear parking aid system and a rearview camera, helping take out the guesswork involved with going reverse. A premium sound system with satellite radio is an option. Navigation is also available.
Buyers can add the Sport Line package, which bundles together red leather, performance interior details and other unique styling cues. The Luxury Line includes 18-inch wheels, chrome exterior trim and upgraded leather upholstery. With the Cold Weather Package, items such as a heated steering wheel and front seats help owners brace for low temperatures. Going with the Technology Package adds innovative equipment, including a head-up display, real-time traffic and remote services. Finally, the M Sport package features special 18-inch wheels, an aero kit, a sport exhaust system and a special M Sport steering wheel.
