The latest in automotive multi-tools is about to roll onto showroom floor at BMW of San Francisco. The luxurious 2018 BMW X3, available in both the xDrive30i and M40i models, is a one-of-a-kind SUV of epic proportions.
Expected to go on sale this fall, the redesigned BMW X3 will offer a full suite of luxury, technology and advanced driving features.
This economical luxury vehicle is powered by either a 2.0-liter twin-turbo inline-four, which is capable of producing 284 HP and 258 lb.-ft. of torque and is capable of hitting 60 MPH in as little as six-seconds as well as a top speed of 130 MPH.
Those who move up to the powerful M40i model ushers in the first M Performance variant for the X3, and it packs a 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six with 355 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. That’s up 55 HP and 69 lb.-ft. from the most powerful X3 from the 2017 model year. Thanks to the added power, BMW expects the model to sprint to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds.
Both models will feature an eight-speed automatic transmission, which is specially tuned for sharper performance in the M40i model. Improved aerodynamics in the form of enhanced body proportions, an active kidney grille, roof spoiler with Aero Blades at the sides, and BMW Air Curtains also regulates the flow of cooling air offering economical fuel savings for BMW’s newest sports utility vehicle.
Luxurious BMW Features
Along with power, the BMW X3 will also feature the latest in luxurious features like 18-inch alloy wheels, front sport seats with adjustable side bolsters, tri-zone automatic climate control, adjustable driving modes, a 40/20/40-split rear seat with individual seat recline, remote rear seat releases and, for the first time ever, a factory-installed trailer hitch.
Moving up to the sporty M40i model adds 19-inch wheels, upgraded brakes, an aggressive front and rear bumper, a sport exhaust, a sport-tuned suspension, a launch control feature, a Sport+ driving mode, steering-wheel-mounted shift paddles and variable-ratio steering.
Advanced Driver Aids
The all-new 5-door SUV also includes the latest advancements in driver aids like blind-spot monitoring, front and rear cross-traffic alert and adaptive cruise control with low-speed automated steering. Tech-savvy automotive fans will also have the opportunity to take advantage of BMW Connected services to control vehicle functions and keep track of the X3's status using everything from an Apple Watch, Amazon Echo as well as hands-free gesture controls to change radio stations, call volume or perform other tasks using the high-tech 10.25-inch touchscreen all while keeping your eyes on the road ahead.
