Throughout its time on the market, the BMW 3 Series has become legendary for providing an excellent balance of sharp handling and luxurious comfort. Owners also enjoy simple controls and a large interior, making it a great way to travel on a daily basis. For 2015, Bluetooth audio connectivity is standard on all models. A sedan version is available in four trim levels: 320i, 328i, 328d and 335i. All-wheel-drive versions are available for each one, which are labeled xDrive. The 3 Series is also made in a wagon form, which can be had in the 328i and 328d trims, both with all-wheel drive.
Powering the 320i models is a 2.0-liter TwinPower turbo four-cylinder engine that makes 180 horsepower and 200 lb.-ft. of torque. It works with an eight-speed automatic transmission to send power to the wheels. The 328i models use the same engine, but with additional tuning it puts out 240 horsepower and 255 lb.-ft. of torque. A 2.0-liter TwinPower diesel four-cylinder engine sits under the hood of the 328d, creating 180 horsepower and an incredible 280 lb.-ft. of torque. For those who crave performance, the 335i packs a punch with its 3.0-liter TwinPower turbo inline six-cylinder engine. Peak output is 300 horsepower and 300 lb.-ft. of torque.
On all versions of the 3 Series, the occupants are protected by a number of passive and active safety features. The anti-lock braking system provides more predictable stopping ability, while the adaptive brake lights help other drivers know how soon the car is stopping. Drivers and front passengers are protected by front, front-side and knee airbags. An interlocking door anchoring setup helps prevent objects from entering the occupant space during a side collision. When the car is in a crash, an impact sensor triggers the battery safety terminal disconnect, cutting off power to the fuel pump, alternator and starter. The system also automatically turns on the hazard lights, unlocks the doors and illuminates the interior lighting.
Standard equipment on the 320i includes 17-inch light alloy wheels, halogen headlights and front fog lights, Satin Silver interior trim, SensaTec upholstery, automatic climate control, dynamic cruise control, automatic windshield wipers, ambiance lighting and a tire pressure monitor. A ten-year subscription to BMW TeleService is also included. The sound system comes with a 205-watt amplifier, nine speakers, CD player and HD radio, plus the car is pre-wired for SiriusXM satellite radio.
The 328i adds matte chrome exterior trim, power-folding side mirrors, power-adjustable front seats, Dark Burl Walnut interior trim with Pearl Gloss Chrome highlights, the iDrive system and an automatic-dimming rearview mirror. The 328d is similarly appointed.
With the 335i, the standard equipment list is expanded further with 18-inch wheels, xenon adaptive headlights and a universal garage door opener with three buttons.
