Groundbreaking safety innovations are also integrated into the vehicle. Rounding out the offering is an exterior which everyone can't help but notice.
For 2017, the BMW 3 Series can be had as a sedan, wagon or Gran Turismo liftback. Each one is practical and beautiful in its own rite. The sedan version can be had in a staggering 9 distinct trim levels: 320i, 320i xDrive, 328d, 328d xDrive, 330i, 330i xDrive, 330e iPerformance, 340i and 340i xDrive. The wagon comes in two trims of its own, 330i xDrive and 328d xDrive. The Gran Turismo is also made with two trims, 330i xDrive and 340i xDrive.
Five engines options are available for the 2017 BMW 3 Series. 320i models use a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline four-cylinder, which puts out 180 horsepower. The 328d versions of the car feature a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo Diesel four-cylinder engine, which also puts out 180 horsepower. For the 330i models, the 2.0-liter gasoline engine is tuned for greater performance, peaking at 248 horsepower. Finally, the 330e iPerformance pairs the 2.0-liter engine with an 87-horsepower electric motor for a combined 248 horsepower. No matter which engine you choose, an 8-speed automatic is paired with it. Rear-wheel drive is standard on some models, and BMW's xDrive all-wheel-drive system is bundled into others.
As an incredibly well-balanced vehicle, several designs in the 2017 BMW 3 Series make each trip engaging for the driver. Dynamic stability control keeps the car in check at all times. An innovative brake drying function pulls the brake pads close enough to the rotors when rain is detected to keep them dry, improving stopping performance. Brake fade compensation also boosts reliability, along with brake stand-by.
BMW has built up a solid reputation for safety, and the 2017 3 Series certainly falls in line with that. Some of the more basic features include ABS brakes, automatic pretensioners for the front seatbelts and adaptive brake lights. An impact sensor triggers the disconnecting of the battery safety terminal from the alternator, starter and fuel pump, which helps with avoiding a dangerous situation after a crash. The LED daytime running lights are programmable, giving owners greater control over visibility. All versions of the vehicle allow drivers to switch on a dynamic cruise control system, which can decrease the speed as traffic slows down, avoiding accidents. Bundled into the BMW Assist eCall system is an SOS button, making it easy to call for help whenever necessary.
The compelling features in the 2017 BMW 3 Series address several comfort, connectivity and convenience needs. All versions of the car come with supportive and well-padded seats, covered in SensaTec fabric or soft leather. The multifunction steering wheel includes controls for the cruise control, sound system and Bluetooth phone connection. Backseat passengers enjoy some nice conveniences as well, like a fold-down center armrest with integrated cupholders, and even one-touch power windows. The standard sound system is impressive, bundling together a CD player, HD radio, 9 speakers, a 205-watt amplifier and SiriusXM satellite radio tuner pre-wiring.
