2015 BMW 228i Coupe - BMW San Mateo

The BMW 2 Series debuted in 2014, succeeding the 1 Series. Both are considered the spiritual “descendants” of the sporty BMW 2002 which ran in the Sixties and Seventies. For the 2015 model year, BMW added a new Track Handling Package to 2 Series coupe models. All-wheel drive can be had as well. Though the 2 is offered in coupe and convertible body styles and in two trim levels, this review focuses on the 228i coupe.
The 2015 BMW 228i coupe comes with a 2.0-liter turbo-charged inline-4 that pumps out 240 horsepower and 255 lb.-ft. of torque to the rear wheels. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard with a six-speed manual offered. Fuel economy is an EPA-estimated 23 mpg in city driving, 36 mpg on the highway and 28 mpg combined.* These figures drop slightly to 22/34/26 in AWD models. Edmunds, after driving the 228i, wrote the following: "The 2015 BMW 2 Series is exceptionally civilized for a high-performance machine. Road- and wind-noise levels are luxuriously low, and the ride is never harsh, even with the suspension calibrations at their sportiest. Driven normally, the 2 Series could fool you into thinking it's a personal luxury car. But if you feel like attacking some corners, the 2 responds with excellent body control, precise steering and unflappable poise.”
The 2015 228i is well-equipped as befitting a luxury sports car. Standard safety features include driver and passenger front, side and knee airbags; anti-lock disc brakes, traction control, stability control, and hill-start assist (manual-equipped models). BMW's advanced Assist eCall telematics system is also standard. Buyers can further customize their 228i coupe with additional safety tech like a backup camera system, city collision mitigation, and lane departure warning.
Standard creature comforts include Bluetooth phone connectivity, faux leather upholstery, Stop/Start pushbutton ignition, power everything and run-flat tires just to name a few. Custom items are offered in packages. Buyers who want an even more sporty drive experience should opt for the Sport Line package which adds a sports-tuned suspension and sports seats. The M Sport and Track Handling packages offer even more enhancements. The friendly staff at your local BMW dealership will happily go over the 228i’s full list of standard and optional equipment. After you get back from your test drives, of course.
